World Gynecologic Oncology Day
September 20

World Gynecologic Oncology Day (World GO Day), founded in 2019 by the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) and its patient advocacy network ENGAGe, has evolved from a European initiative into a powerful global movement. Observed annually on September 20th, this awareness day unites healthcare professionals, patients, advocates, and policymakers worldwide.
The day’s distinctive logo represents all gynecologic cancers through its meaningful color scheme: teal for ovarian, peach for uterine, fuchsia for cervical, light purple for vulvar, and blue for vaginal cancers. With the empowering message, “There is no shame in asking the doctor,” World GO Day focuses on breaking down barriers to awareness, tackling stigma and silence, encouraging early detection, and promoting a better understanding of gynecologic cancers.
What began as a regional effort has expanded dramatically, with dozens of organizations hosting hundreds of events worldwide. Through social media campaigns, educational seminars, and community events, participants globally unite using hashtags #GOAgainstStigma and #GOForPrevention to share knowledge and support.
This worldwide initiative represents a crucial step in improving awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting better outcomes for women affected by gynecologic cancers by emphasizing the importance of recognizing symptoms and encouraging open dialogue between patients and healthcare providers.
